History
Service began writing poetry while working as a banker in Whitehorse. He continued writing in his log cabin overlooking Dawson City. Service's poems capture the essence of the Klondike Gold Rush and life in the Yukon during that era.
After the gold rush peaked in Dawson, stampeders journeyed to Nome, Alaska and later settled in Fairbanks. Because of Alaska's shared gold rush history with the Yukon, Service's poems are sometimes recited at venues in Alaska.
